Modeling tips that every aspiring model should know!
1. Modeling is a business, and as a model, you are your own business!
Like any business, it takes time, effort, commitment, and patience to become a successful model. Remember that success does not happen over night. 2. Present yourself as the perfect candidate: show confidence, have a good attitude and a friendly personality. Show your personal style, but keep it clean and simple and always make a good first impression. 3. Keep a healthy lifestyle: drink a lot of water, hold on to a healthy diet, work-out regularly, get sufficient sleep. 4. Look after your skin and your hair: use skin & hair care products, keep make-up at a minimum when not working on a production, take off your make-up every night and take care of your natural hair, especially if wearing extensions on a regular basis. 5. Apply and attend as much castings and go-sees as possible: For models, a casting or a go see is a job interview, and should be regarded as such. Be prepared with by knowing your measurments and bring a few copies of your compcard with your updated contact information. 6. Model agency representation: If you are looking for representation within a model agency, or if a model agency contacts you, please make sure the contract is reliable and includes the standard conditions of the industry. DO NOT pay to sign to any agency.
Keep an eye on the following points: percentage of commission, duration of contract, cancellation terms, exclusiveness, any hidden costs or fees (basically read the small print!) If you have any doubts please contact us. Don't sign a contract if you do not feel 100% sure!!
7. Update your portfolio, compcards and headshots regularly with qulaity photographers
( please also read photoshoot tips blog ) your compcard is your business card and portfolios are great tools for potential agencies to see your diverse looks, experience and additional talents.
8. Do your reserch in the fashion and modeling industries.
Make it your priority to know what trends are hot and which designers are seeking models. Stay on top of your continued development and training in all areas as possible, as this is a highly competive job industry, you want to shine and stand out as the best.
If there are occasional acting and or modeling workshops that you can take that will help to assit you with becoming a professional model then take advantage of these resources and networking opportunites. As even the most skilled professional models took time and years to build her diverse portfolio and list many practical experiences to get to where they are today. Of course always do your homework on any school, agency, and or workshops that you are getting involved in to make sure that you are getting the most out of your investment into your career.
